3-year-old girl’s shooting death in Monroeville believed to be accidental, according to police

Allegheny County Police said a 3-year-old girl was accidentally shot to death Friday night.Monroeville Police responded to Cambridge Square Apartments off Mosside Boulevard around 9:00 p.m. where 3-yea-rold Braya Sanders was found dead from a gunshot wound. The agency requested Allegheny County Police to assist in the investigation.Detectives said “strong evidence” suggests a 5-year-old sibling accidently shot Braya “while handling an unsecured firearm” inside the home.She was taken to the hospital after being found shot and died there.Police said the weapon appeared to be legally owned by a parent, who investigators said is cooperating in the investigation. It’s unclear how the 5-year-old gained access to the weapon, but detectives are investigating as the case heads to the Allegheny County District Attorney’s office to determine who is responsible in this death.Investigators said Allegheny County Children, Youth, and Families has been notified, as is procedure with major incidents involving children.
