Celtics welcome fans back to TD Garden for first time in over a year

For the first time in over a year, the Boston Celtics are playing in front of fans at TD Garden.Fans will be allowed to attend Wednesday night’s game between the Celtics and the New Orleans Pelicans. The last time fans were allowed inside the Boston arena for a Celtics game was March 8, 2020, when the Celtics hosted the Oklahoma City Thunder.The Celtics have a 13-7 home record this season but are just 10-16 on the road, so the team is excited to start a seven-game homestand with fans in attendance.”I’ve been looking forward to this for a long time,” said Celtics point guard Kemba Walker.”The atmosphere is just the most exciting part here,” said Celtics fan Michael Foley, of Westbrook, Maine. “I think part of the Celtics’ struggles this year is the (lack of a) fan atmosphere.”Current state rules limit capacity for all arenas to 12%, which is about 2,200 people for TD Garden.The arena has already welcomed spectators back for three Boston Bruins games since Massachusetts entered Phase 4 of its COVID-19 reopening plan on March 22.Fans will be seated in pods, distanced from others in the stands. No bags will be allowed and fans will have assigned gates and bathrooms, determined by their mobile tickets.
